2018 Reserve Grenache
Grenache has long been a pin-up of mine. This versatile grape has a long-standing history across Rutherglen, McLaren Vale and the Barossa where it was often relegated to fortified wine production and as a basic blending component. More recently, winemakers have recognised the beauty that can be achieved in single varietal wines. 2018 was the third vintage of Warrabilla-grown Grenache and, dare I say, our best to date. This wine captures all that we set out to achieve in our work with this variety. Seductive, highly perfumed aromatics, richly textured, cherries, raspberry and spice without a trace of heat.
Brilliant ruby red in colour with crystal clarity. The aromatics leap from the glass with rose petals, raspberries, marshmallow and freshly baked Nanna-biscuits springing to mind. The palate is medium-bodied and utterly seamless. Raspberries, cranberries, elegant white pepper and hints of toasty coconut fill the mouth with velvety fine-grained tannins providing texture. A beautiful expression of fruit complemented by subtle seasoned oak.
