2018 Reserve Shiraz
I often think of Shiraz as a bit of a workhorse. It's Australia's most widely-planted variety but as such, you've got to make a damn good one! We work with three vineyards, on very different soils, to bring forth the best Shiraz grapes we possibly can year on year. It's a relatively early- picked variety and as such, escapes a lot of disease and weather pressures. This means that despite some vintage variation, there's a consistency across the board among the Reserve Shiraz. Sight unseen, if you pick up a bottle, you've got a pretty good idea of the quality this quiet little achiever is going to deliver. Every good cellar needs a wine this dependable in it!
Vibrant black/ purple in colour with a crimson hue at the rim. The nose alludes to the generous new French and American oak Puncheons in which this wine was matured. Allspice and vanilla bean paired with ripe blackberry fruits rise from the glass. Full-bodied, rich and possessing a voluptuous texture, the palate is flooded with blackberry fruits, liquorice and cocoa. Structural tannins provide a backbone for the attractive, sweet fruits to linger for a perfectly balanced, moreish finish.
